The Barnacle, for unpaid tickets, is held in place with suction cups that require a force of 750 pounds to release.

There was an FP article last year: http://jalopnik.com/the-barnacle-is-the-car-blindfold-cops-will-slap-on-you-1789468378
Seems like an interesting solution, but might be too easy to deploy, leading to abuse. As a boot replacement, it seems fine, but you wouldnt want one used for every parking ticket.
The icy/snowy windshield thing also seems like a big potential problem.

Seems like you could run a wire like a longer guitar string under it and saw back and forth for a couple minutes on all the sides and have it off in no time.

Yeah I was wondering what the suction system was like, or if they have any protection. It cant be too much or it would hit the glass, like you say, you might be able to get something thin and strong in there. But they record your plates and the city knows! Then you fuck up their gadget and make you pay for it since a cracky will do doubt carry it away and take it apart looking for gold inside. I saw one take a shop vac completely apart next to a bus stop.

If they were smart it has like 8 suction points with indipendant valves. Yeah I doubt they want to tell us what the guts look like.

Yeah I think we could defeat that pretty easily.
![]() 06/26/2017 at 22:05 |

yeah. i thought it would be made of metal and have multiple suction cups. looks like a piece of junk to be honest.

You could carefully get a plumbing torch and just burn a hole in each side until it pops. breaking the seal from the top of each black circle without getting too close to the glass. Shit you could get a drill and carefully drill down as well.

yeah thats what I dont get is how weak looking it is. I think i would try to break the suction. somehow wedge very thin teflon material under the cups just to see if it would work.

Im curious if that outer ring protects the actual suction. If the outer ring is the edge of the suction I bet you could.
